Maintenance Advice. Patching Lawn Spots

The weather in Cincinnati can be very unkind to your lawn, and this means patchy, spotty grass can appear after a long and harsh winter.

Do not worry; your lawn is not doomed due to bare spots. This is fairly easy to fix. The solution to this problem begins by determining why that spot went bald in the first place.

Possible Culprits for Patchy Spots on Your Lawn Include:

  • Area drains too quickly
  • Too much shade
  • Disease or insect problem
  • Grass seed doesn’t work in that environment
  • Low mower blade setting
  • Lots of foot & animal traffic
Our experts suggest that if the heart of the problem is not addressed, the spot could return. If the problem is a drainage or shade issue, you may want to consider planting a desert or shade-loving plant in that spot instead. If it’s a foot traffic problem, installing a walking path will work.

Now that you know the root of the problem, it’s time to patch those unsightly spots.

First, spread some soil on the area. Then, apply quality grass seed and feed. Keep the soil moist until the grass matures. Then, water it the same way as the rest of the yard.
