Freshen Up Indoor Living

You don’t have to go outside to enjoy the flowers in your garden. Invigorate your home décor by bringing a little of the outdoors inside. Place arrangements of fresh-cut flowers around your home and enjoy their beauty and perfume.

To Maximize the Life and Beauty of Fresh-Cut Flowers, Follow These Simple Tips:

  • Cut flowers early in the morning using a sharp knife or garden shears. Cut stems at a 45-degree angle and place them directly into a container filled with lukewarm water.
  • Remove excess foliage or blooms that would fall below the waterline before arranging them. These can rot and taint the water, shortening the life of your arrangement.
  • Boost the water by adding nourishment and antibacterial ingredients. For every quart of water, mix in two crushed aspirins and a teaspoon of sugar. Think outside the vase and get creative with your fresh-cut blooms.
  • Let overnight visitors enjoy them in the guest room in a pretty bud vase. Rest it atop some new magazines or a best seller on a bedside table.
  • To thank a gracious hostess, surprise her with a thin, tall vase overflowing with lavender blooms. Wrap a ribbon around the vase and attach a card with a recipe.
  • Leaves from hosta varieties make a nice backdrop. Hosta leaves are eye-catching and come in an array of sizes, colors and textures. Cut leaves will last up to two weeks.
