Four Simple Things to Do For Your Yard This Summer

Plant High Heat Flowers

June, July and August are the baking hot months of summer. Take this time to plant flowers that will be resistant to the summer heat. It’s also a good opportunity to evaluate the state of your landscape. Look around and see places for you to add to your landscape with summer flowers, trees or shrubs.

Keep Your Lawn Trimmed

A lush lawn should be maintained at a minimum height of 3”. Don’t cut it shorter than that. This will allow the grass to be more tolerant to infrequent watering. Your grass will still need to be watered, but a longer, lusher lawn will reduce the effects of a drought season.

Inspect and Repair Your Irrigation System

Keeping your landscape healthy and watered can be extremely difficult. A sprinkler system will help, but just like anything, it will wear down over time. Inspect your sprinklers for damage and deterioration. Temperature changes, material degradation, filter and gasket breakdown and above-ground factors can all cause this wear and tear. Prevent the whole system from failing all at once by checking the system regularly.

Fertilize Your Grass

The summer can be extremely tough on your grass. The heat, drought, foot traffic and insects can leave it looking tired and unhealthy. Give it a boost with some fertilizer and utilize weed control to prevent the spread of clover and other non-grass elements that can invade your lawn.
