Ridding Your Garden Of Rabbits

Sometimes, unwanted garden visitors come in the non-insect variety. And while the image of a bunny is beloved by many, as gardeners we frequently curse and shoo them away.

It’s the rabbits’ appetite of flowers, leaves, vegetables and woody plants that cause the greatest damage.

Some home remedies include dusting your garden with black pepper or chili pepper, especially around bean plants, lettuce, peas, carrots and apple trees.

For a vegetable garden, you might want to erect a chicken wire fence around the perimeter.

Consider intermixing your garden with plants rabbits are less interested in, including:
  • Asters
  • Daylilies
  • Iris
  • Monkshood
  • Yarrow
Another useful lawn care tip for summer is to water your lawn deeply and less frequently to encourage drought-tolerant roots. These quick maintenance items are enough to get your lawn through the humid summer months and into autumn.

Ward + Thornton Landscapes offer services and expert advice for a thriving landscaping project.
